On Tuesday the 14th of November 2023 at approximately 14h45 members from the Urban Defence Field Unit responded to an alleged shooting in progress outside Emam Bux on Alpine Road. While on route to the location of the shooting, the Urban Defence Field Unit members saw a black male wearing black clothing being chased by members of the public opposite Check Save on Alpine Road. The members tactically approached the suspect and instructed him to lay down on the ground. The suspect was taken back to the scene of the alleged shooting. The members found 3 x black males who were apprehended by passing motorists and other security companies who attended as well. As per an eye witness, he saw these four black males robbing students at George Campbell technical school at knife point. He tried to intervene but the suspects fled in a white Hyundai i10. The witness chased after the vehicle which crashed on Alpine Road causing the suspects to abandon the vehicle and flee on foot. After hearing what transpired, field unit members searched the suspect they had arrested and recovered 2 x black smart phones in the suspects jeans pockets.
Mayville SAPS arrived a short while later and placed the suspects under arrest. The suspects and vehicle were transported to Mayville Police Station.
Urban Defence Field Unit members contacted George Campbell and managed to track down the students who robbed. The students who were accompanied by their parents, positively identified the suspects and their stolen phones. At the police station field unit members were able to confirm that the vehicle the suspects were driving had false license plate and license disc with a ND***** which belongs to a VW Kombi. Field Unit members tested the Vin number and obtained the correct registration which is ND******.
