On the 08th of August 2023 at around 17h45, Urban Defence Armed Response Officers were dispatched to a panic alarm from a business situated on Brickfield Road (Overport).
As per the first responding officer, the client pointed out a female who had been brutally stabbed and was bleeding heavily. The officer approached the female in an attempt to render first aid when he was abruptly stopped by an off duty security guard who stated that he witnessed the attack and pointed out a male who was seated near the female and alleged that the male was the suspect who stabbed the female. The reaction officer approached the suspect and noticed that the suspect had a knife hidden underneath his thigh. After a short struggle, the reaction officer successfully disarmed the suspect and placed him in hand cuffs. During the struggle the officer unfortunately sustained a stab wound to his hand. Back up response officers and SAPS arrived seconds later and were able to get medical assistance from ALS Paramedics, who managed to stabilize the victim and transport her to the hospital. The suspect and weapon were handed over to members from the Cato Manor Trio Crimes Unit and was charged for attempted murder as per Sydenham CAS: **/08/23.
