URBAN DEFENCE SUCCESS REPORT
OFFENCE: Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle /Possession of Unlicensed Firearm and Ammunition.
STATION: Sydenham SAPS.
CAS: ##/11/2023.
SUSPECT: Revaaj *****

On the 15th November 2023 at approximately 16h00 we received information from the Urban Defence guarding division regarding 2 x Toyota Corolla’s Bronze in colour bearing the same registration number: ND****** parked on the 3rd level in Sparks mall, Sparks Road. Urban Defence Field Unit members were dispatched to investigate. The malls cctv operator was instructed to track the occupants of both vehicles on camera and confirm their location within the mall. The 1st vehicle was checked and found to be in order, the second vehicle was checked and the vin came up positive Via Cato Manor CAS: ***/11/2022, Carjacking, where the victim was hijacked on Old Dunbar Road opp Mojos car wash where he was taken to ATMs to withdraw cash and dumped in Umlazi. Cato Manor Trio Task members and Sydenham Crime Prevention members were immediately contacted and arrived a short while later. We observed the vehicle and the CCTV operator inside Check Star monitored the female driver who was being followed by the Urban Defence store detective. A short while later an African female arrived and opened the vehicle, she became known as Thembisa. She was informed that the vehicle was stolen and placed under arrest for Section 36. We enquired where she got the vehicle from and she called a taxi driver from the Clare Estate taxi association who in turn called his boss, Revaaj. The husband of Thembisa arrived and pointed out Revaaj who had sold the vehicle to them for R55 000.00 and they paid a deposit of R35 000.00.
The husband gave a statement confirming they purchased the vehicle from him (Revaaj)and Revaaj was placed under for section 36. His taxi (Quantum)was also checked and the chassis tags were tampered with including his white GWM, SUV. All three vehicles were seized and taken to Sydenham SAPS. A follow up operation was conducted at Revaaj’s residents where 1 x Norinco 45 was seized with 1 x magazine containing 8 live rounds.
